  • Existing building retrofit, add to and modify existing mechanical systems to accomodate load in a secure facility

Scope:

  • Convert warehouse to offices, cafeteria, security, training, customer and technical services plus establish a product quality control room within the technical services area

HVAC Systems:

  • Conventional packaged rooftop with air-side economizers
  • Programmable set-back controls with adaptive optimal start

Energy Saving Strategies:

  • Natural gas heating systems - low carbon emissions
  • Programmable controls allow for variable schedules and occupants
  • Adaptive optimal start controls allow most efficient warm-up cycle during heating season

System Benefits/Goals:

  • Low-cost simple system with minimal structural impact on existing lightweight roof structure

Design Challenges:

  • Lightweight roof structure required a distributed HVAC system
  • Fast track schedule demanded quick turnaround on procurement, immediate submission for permitting
  • Significant seasonal variability in occupant rates required flexible system layout capacity control and discrete zoning
